Death Metal Band

★ Bruntwood Prize 2019 Longlist ★

An elderly choir prepare to compete in West England's Choir of the Year 2019, in an attempt to save their church, their choir and ultimately themselves from the impending doom of 'regeneration'.

With the spectre of death all around them, the choir’s fear of their own mortality seems to start driving them. But after being consumed by the competition and their own grief, they are all at risk of losing what the choir really means, and what it really holds.

Death Metal Band is a play about community, grief, and the fear of dying without having achieved.
